The exhibition KARIM RASHID - ART AND DESIGN IN A GLOBAL WORLD seeks to transplant his version of modernity into a cultural hemisphere where modernism has always had a striking life of its own. We need think only of Oscar Niemeyer’s architecture or artists such as pioneering Op artist Soto or mural painter Diego Rivera.
Modernity is also Karim Rashid’s key intention, one shared by the manufacturers of his works, when creating object which are, in the global context, perceived as modern.
Two renowned institutes are involved in the project: Sao-Paulo based foundation Instituto Tomie Ohtake and Munich’s Neue Sammlung design museum.
The Neue Sammlung in Munich, one of the most dedicated design museums of the world since 1907, this high-profile location will include the exhibits in its permanent collection after the South America tour - ensuring them a long-term home in the presentation of 21st century design history.
